2020 Dance Club is a performance and competition company and a dance school. A qualified teacher teaches technique and is on hand to help with skill sharing.
Members do a lot themselves. They dream up their own choreography either individually with support of the group members or outside choreographers who are friends of the club and who get paid for their services (members chip in to pay choreographers fees as the incur them).
The club has worked well for competition pieces where the concept, music, choreo outline is prepared you the dance captain and the choreographer has input to change, clean it up, help make it competition worthy.
regardless of taking part in competition, the time getting together to have a workout, stretch, run through some technical training practise has been invaluable.
It’s been great for kids to learn from other kids. For example, Daisy can share some of the things she has learned from Dance East CAT (Centre for Advanced Training) She and Tor can share things from Brendan Hansford’s Youth Company. She does other classes at Pineapple too as does Kyoko and Tori so up to date skills, routines etc can be shared.
Grades, ability, and age is not important to us unless they are the professional/vocational grades with UCAS points to help you later on with further education in dance.
Everyone comes along to whatever session they want. Naturally some people will be more suited to and interested in some sessions than others. The weekly schedules allow people to choose what to come along to and what to join in with.
There are two studios available to us each week so we can organise into two groups in each session if we want.
This might mean practising something learned elsewhere, showing each other what they have taught themselves, working through online tutorials as a group, or working in groups to rehearse competition dances.
Skills can be any technique in any genre, tap/ballet/jazz/hip hop/modern/contemporary/etc and might include people practising and sharing ‘tricks’ or sequences.
