Meet the team
Daisy Welford – Founder, Choreographer and Dancer
Daisy started ballet at age 2 and added a range of dance styles from a young age. At at 13 she has completed all of the RAD ballet grades achieving a Distinction at Grade 8 under the tuition of Beth Hodson, B.R. Dance and Francesca Terroni School of Dance. She has previously trained with LL Dance and has completed ISTD Bronze, Silver and Gold Jazz (Distinctions). She is working at ISTD Modern and Tap Intermediate and Advanced levels and RAD Advanced Foundation and Advanced 1 Ballet with various tutors.
She has regularly competed at Advanced levels with lyrical, contemporary, hip hop and jazz dance styles. Her first contemporary piece that she choreographed for 2020 Novice dancers entitled “Desperate Waters” in 2016 (at the age of 12 years) won ‘The Contemporary Cup’ at Huntingdonshire Festival of Dance, hosted by Stageworks, not only winning it’s category but obtaining the highest Contemporary score of the entire festival over two days. Since then she has won regular trophies for her choreographed pieces in Contemporary, Hip Hop, Jazz and Lyrical.
Daisy expanded her interests outside of her local dance school from a young age to include several drama experiences and productions with English Youth Ballet, Pantomime productions, and other drama productions. She competed with a dance troupe from age 8 to 11 years and was then lucky to be offered a place with Tring school of performing arts but sadly due to lack of funding, was unable to take this vocational route and live away from home and chose instead to take up a vocational place with Dance East Centre of Advanced training that she was lucky to be offered. From thereon she decided to take her health and injury prevention more seriously, reducing the risk of over-training with repetitive competition routines and emphasis on acro.
More recently she has trained with Ryan Jenkins, ID Dance Company, to whom she is very thankful for training and advice. Daisy currently trains with Brendon Hansford’s Youth Company (Loverudeye) at Pineapple Dance Studios in London. She believes dance competitions should be safe, inclusive for everyone, and focused on training and development feedback and artistry. She embraces her creativity with choreography and likes to encourage others and so she set up 2020 Dance Club in November 2015, at age 11 years, to encourage others to have fun with dance and bring a variety of excellent teachers and experiences to 2020 Members.
Jasmin Brennan – Resident Teacher and Choreographer since Summer 2017
Graduating from Stella Mann College of Performing Arts in 2014, Jasmin has impressive professional dance experience and a passion for teaching all age and ability students in all areas of dance and musical theatre. She has assisted at professional workshops at Move It 2014 including Craig Scott and Ryan Jenkins. She is a Choreographer, Teacher, Mentor and Dance Artist. Jasmin’s “Competition Technique” class at 2020 Dance Club has proved very popular consisting of conditioning, corner work, technical exercises, and teaching technique that you see at competitions.
She has been a fantastic coach and mentor to emerging choreographers at our club since she started and her help with several pieces has led to trophies at various competitions in Contemporary and Modern/Jazz.
Jasmin is currently working on several competitive pieces for the dance club members who describe her as a fantastic person to be around giving consistent technical guidance and who adore her encouraging and nurturing personality.
Lara May, Guest Choreographer and Teacher
Lara trained locally from a young age and graduated from SLP with a dance degree. She worked with us as resident teacher and choreographer simply because Daisy nagged her until she relented. Her pieces have consistently won awards and she has assisted the team members with their award winning awards pieces too including Starpower London 2017. The photo above shows Lara at Move It 2017 with two 2020 Team Members which shows that she is passionate about helping to give dance experiences to the members wherever she can. She is currently Choreographer for Spotlight Productions alongside her full time job but still continues to give up some of the small amount of spare time that she has to choreograph and coach amazing routines for 2020 Dance Club.
